After spending nearly a decade vacationing in Durango, Alex Miller, his wife Emily, and their young son Bowen decided it was time to make the community home.

That decision soon led to another. In July 2024, Alex purchased Smart Enterprises, followed by Animas Glass in February 2025, taking the helm of two businesses that have served the Four Corners for decades.

"I was drawn to Smart Enterprises and Animas Glass because both have longstanding roots in the community," Alex says. "Owning small businesses is a great way to become part of that community."

For Alex, the opportunity was about more than ownership. It was about carrying forward the reputation and relationships each business had already built.

"I've met so many great people and fellow business owners," he says. "My goal is to continue the legacy of both businesses while finding ways to make them even better."

Smart Enterprises has helped homeowners throughout the Four Corners create comfortable indoor and outdoor living spaces for nearly 40 years. The showroom features hot tubs, swim spas, saunas, cold plunges, fireplaces, stoves, and a custom framing department.

Just two doors away, Animas Glass has served Durango for more than 20 years, providing residential, commercial, and automotive glass services, including custom shower enclosures, mirrors, railings, storefront glass, windshield replacement, calibration, and auto chip repair. The shop also works directly with insurance companies to simplify windshield claims, and customers who purchase a new windshield receive complimentary chip repairs for one year. "Just call and give us your insurance information, and we'll take care of the rest," Alex says.

Each business maintains its own showroom, giving customers the opportunity to see products and craftsmanship firsthand. Together, the companies serve homeowners, builders, contractors, schools, municipalities, and businesses across Southwest Colorado.

Whether helping a homeowner transform a living room with a new fireplace, creating an inviting backyard with a hot tub or sauna, installing custom glass for a remodel, or replacing a cracked windshield, Alex and his team focus on helping customers improve both their homes and their daily lives.

"We live in such spectacular surroundings," Alex says. "We want our clients to come home to a place that's beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing."

When they're not working, Alex and Emily enjoy taking advantage of everything southwest Colorado has to offer, including fly fishing, trail running, skiing, and spending time on the river with Bowen.

Smart Enterprises is located at 1400 Main Avenue, and Animas Glass is just two doors away at 1403 Second Avenue. Learn more at
